Victoria Rance's work examines occupied space. Her sculptures invite the viewer to enter either physically or imaginatively. The works create a sheltering skin, a place which protects or alters the sense of self. But there can also be ambivalence, a feeling of imprisonment and claustrophobia. She is interested in architecture and functional objects, both contemporary and historic and the interplay between functionality and art. The works exhibited in Concrete Dreams are explorations in miniature; some have later been made in full scale. In the studio they are stored together although made over several years. As in a built environment, their relationship to each other changes with any new addition or subtraction.

After finishing her degree in Fine Art at Newcastle University in 1983, Victoria Rance spent a year sculpting in Mexico. Since then she has exhibited her work extensively in group shows in Britain and also Holland Germany and Japan, with solo shows in 2000, 2002 and 2004. She won The Mark Tanner Award for Sculpture, the resulting show was at The Standpoint Gallery, Hoxton, London in 2004. Since then her work has been shown at many venues including The Jerwood Gallery, ArtSway, Darlington Arts Centre, Bishop's Square Spitalfileds, Burghley House, and One Canada Square.
